Class Non-selective beta-adrenergic receptor blocker.
Action Reduces aqueous formation by blocking beta2 receptors on nonpigmented ciliary epithelium.
Usage Indicated in the treatment of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with
ocular hypertension or open-angle glaucoma.
Gel forms upon contact with tears. Subsequently removed by the flow of tears.
Contraindications Bronchial asthma, a history of bronchial asthma, COPD, sinus bradycardia,
second or third degree atrioventricular block, overt cardiac failure, cardiogenic
shock or hypersensitivity to any component of the product.
Pediatric use Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established.
Pregnancy Category C. Increased fetal resorptions in rabbits with dosage 14,000 times the human dose.
GELRITE is a purified anionic heteropolysaccharide derived from gellan gum.
