Class Macrolide (primarily bacteriostatic)
Action Blocks bacterial protein synthesis.
Activity Broad spectrum antibiotic. Active against Streptococcus mitis group,
Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, CDC coryneform group G, atypical
Mycobacterium, Mycoplasma and Legionella. Poor activity against Staph. species.
Usage  Indicated for the treatment of bacterial conjunctivitis.  
Used off label for blepharitis.
Contraindications Macrolide hypersensitivity
Avoid if pt. allergic to erythromycin.
Pediatric use Over 1 year
Pregnancy Category B. No evidence of harm to rat fetus at 5000x the human ophthlmic dose.
0.003% BAK preserved.
Good tissue penetration. DuraSite delivery medium allows qd dosing.
